Wow. Since I first wrote this post, the 5-star reviews on Amazon have exploded to 6,500, and they’re still climbing. Friends, it’s simply not possible to line up that many liars. I can only speak for myself when I say this cleanse came through like a boss when I needed to fit into my wedding dress with only a few short weeks remaining.

So here we all are.
Winter’s last gasp appears to be behind us, and we’re cruising into summer following a stellar first quarter of clean eating habits and diligent workouts. With minds like water and energy through the roof, we leap out of bed each morning 15 minutes before the alarm sounds. Out come last season’s summer clothes from storage. We parade around in front of the mirror, delighted to find that they are practically falling off of us due to how tight and toned we are. Gone are the buttons screaming in agony as they fight to hang on against the tsunami-like pressure of our midsections. Zippers are zipping, and snaps are snapping.
Me neither. It’s OK. Not too late for a little internal “spring cleaning” to jump start weight loss and healthy eating habits for the summer.
We’ll get to that in a minute. First, can I just tell you how much I love Costco?
When I decided to go on a 10-Day Green Smoothie Detox Cleanse, nearly everything I needed could be found there, organic and conveniently packaged in bulk. While I love Whole
Paycheck Foods, the same haul would run me twice as much there, so I always hit the warehouse club first. Any leftover items I don’t find or want to buy at Costco, I can always pick up at Whole Foods on the way home.
So it’s Day 3 on this detox cleanse, and I’m impressed. Best sleep I’ve had in awhile, not a single hunger pain or craving, and I feel phenomenal. Yes, the color of the smoothies (a putrid green or muddy olive) looks positively wretched most days. But the flavor, consistency and nutritional value is great, and the ingredients easily obtainable, so I don’t care.
All the recipes and instructions come from the book 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse: Lose up to 15lbs in 10 days, by J.J. Smith. Though I’ve only just jumped in, I had to trust that this book was the real deal due to the sheer volume of positive reviews on Amazon. You’ll need to order your own copy to get the full program details, but below is the Day 1 recipe that started me on my way. UPDATE: Since then I’ve even figured out a method to preserve all those greens you buy for the cleanse, before they go bad! See the video demo below:
So how hard is it to stick to a detox cleanse program? Easier than you think, but not without challenges. And in response to those of you who’ve asked, it is possible to keep up with your exercise program while on the cleanse. One that I love (and actually tested and reviewed) is Kettlebell Kickboxing: The Body Series because of its focus on long-term fitness, something so important as you transition from the formal cleanse to a healthy eating program. (Remember to consult with your doctor first if you’re doing both for the first time.)

How to stick to a green smoothie cleanse without losing your mind (3 Detox “Hacks”)

10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse – Day 1
- 3 handfuls spinach
- 2 cups water
- 1 apple, cored, quartered
- 1 cup frozen mangos
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 handful frozen or fresh seedless grapes
- 1 stevia (or monkfruit) packet
- 2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds
- OPTIONAL: 1 scoop of protein powder (plant-based; no whey)
- Place leafy greens and water into blender and blend until mixture is a green juice-like consistency. Stop blender and add remaining ingredients. Blend until creamy.
